About

A Common Thread is a photo lifestyle blog for those interested in everything RVA.

The birth of A Common Thread came from Kevin Lacson (KL), Jessica Millete (JM) and Jered Yalung (JY).

Why ‘A Common Thread’? Although Richmond is diverse, we are all connected by what we are interested in through food, art, music, etc. Everyone wants something engaging and compelling to do, and we want to make sure that we share as much as we can.

We decided to catch the bridge during sunset yesterday and KL + JY were able to capture some shots on both sides of the bridge. Here’s a select few from the brief shoot that lasted 15 minutes.
_____

The Robert E. Lee Memorial Bridge in Richmond, Virginia carries U.S. Route 1 and U.S. Route 301 across the James River at the fall line.

The city acquired the original bridge from Richmond Bridge Corp in 1933, and it was named the James River Bridge but was later renamed for the Confederate general. It was originally constructed as a four lane toll facility and opened in 1934. In the 1980s, a replacement structure was built including a substantial realignment of the approach roadways at the south end. Work was completed in 1989. It is toll-free. The Virginia War Memorial is located adjacent to its northern end.

A notable feature is a pedestrian footbridge which hangs below the road deck from Tredegar Street near the site of the Tredegar Iron Works on the north shore over to Belle Isle in the middle of the river.

Richmond, VA 23220

Special combo for $16.95
- Miso Soup
- Appetizers: Steamed Dumplings, Shumai
- Regular Rolls: Manhattan Roll, Spicy Squid Roll
- Special Rolls: Spider Roll, James River Roll

JM & JY decided to splurge on sushi after being ridiculously hungry for hours. JM wanted JY to experience Akida since he had never been. It was a last minute decision, so JM forgot her 50mm lens…but it’s okay. It was an opportunity for A Common Thread!

From the outside, Akida has that “hole in the wall” look yet it’s inviting. It’s a snug and cozy restaurant good for an intimate conversation. You can either sit at the bar or get a table for two or four.

On the first page of the menu, there is a Special Combination opportunity. It was definitely worth $16.95 to get soup, an appetizer and two rolls. The food came out so promptly that the next dish would come out without the previous dish finished; therefore, we had all of our food on our table at once. Everything was delicious and our stomachs were satisfied.

It’s a quaint restaurant with a homelike feeling where you get “the best bang for your buck”. The only thing we would want to see an improvement on is the music choice — we would have felt better with something traditionally Japanese and not your mainstream pop radio station.

JM is still learning and yearning to improve with taking/editing photos.

The Beginning

The birth of A Common Thread came from Kevin Lacson (KL), Jessica Millete (JM) and Jered Yalung (JY).

After living in Richmond, VA, we’ve had the common interest of producing a photo blog featuring aspects of this glorious city. Rather than having separate blogs, we decided to team up and exhibit the Richmond lifestyle by including (but not limited to): local restaurants, events, musical concerts, First Friday Art Walk, historical monuments, museums, VCU functions, etc. Just anything and everything you want and need to know about Richmond, VA whether you are a newbie, local, visitor, student, professional or someone in between .

This gives us a chance to explore and share our adventures through photo enriched entries.

Why ‘A Common Thread’?
Although this city is diverse, we are all connected by what we are interested in through food, art, music, etc. Everyone wants something engaging and compelling to do, and we want to make sure that we share as much as we can.

Stay tuned. We shall begin soon.
